And so there was, in ancient times, a King who, above all else, coveted the Dragon’s treasure, which was believed to be worth more than all the riches in the Land combined. Day and night, he sought high and low, working his subjects long hours to aid in his quest and exploiting any knowledge that might be of use, for, while he desired the treasure, he also desired time to enjoy it and knew the search might take many years. Many died aiding in his quest, risking life and limb for the sake of the King’s ambition. When the day finally came that the treasure was found, the King made sure he was the first to gaze upon it. But the Dragon’s treasure was cursed, and as the King took hold, his body transformed into a Dragon itself, for the King had already become a dragon in spirit: greedy, conniving, malevolent. And so the Dragon King hoarded his treasure, fending off those who would seek to possess it for themselves, until the time would come when a kindred spirit would drink from the cup, lifting the curse to become the next Dragon King.
